How can seeing a dietitian help you?

Not all nutrition advice is equal. Here is what sets an Accredited Practising Dietitian apart, and what that means for your health.

Do you watch what you eat? Do you feel that you try your best to follow a healthy diet? Have you tried every diet under the sun? But yet still can't reach your health goals? A dietitian can help!

Dietitians are the experts in food and nutrition. We are the only health professionals who dedicate 4 years at university to study food, nutrition and the impact it has on health. We use food to promote health, prevent and treat disease. We have undertaken training in many different areas including in hospitals, community centres, nursing homes and medical clinics.

Unfortunately in Australia, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. Although there are university-qualified nutritionists who complete 3 years of study, the use of the word is not regulated. Therefore anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, even if they have had no formal study or have just done a 6 week online course, and give misguided or potentially dangerous advice.

However in order to call ourselves dietitians, we must have completed a 4 year university degree. Accredited Practising Dietitians are also required to complete 30 hours of continuous professional development every year, to keep up to date with the latest nutrition research and are the sources of reliable dietary advice.

Dietitians are trained to work with patients with a range of medical conditions. If you have any of the conditions below, our dietitians can help! If you have a condition not listed above and would like to know whether seeing a dietitian would help, please do not hesitate to contact us prior to booking an appointment!

Ready to take the next step? Our Accredited Practising Dietitians are here to build a plan that works for your life.
